Yoga and Back Pain.
Back pain is a disease affecting millions of people in the Western world. Despite the size of the problem there is still no definitive answer given by medicine. Luckily there is Yoga. When the muscles of the lumbar, cervical and thoracic (especially between the shoulder blades) are kept for a long time contracts, for working or for causes mental tension, it occurs a state of chronic and painful contraction. If no measures are taken, the situation may worsen as the atonicity of the affected muscles can lead to strains, sprains, spinal slippage, protrusions and hernias. The main causes of back pain are: poor posture, muscle failure and habitual performance of “wrong moves“. To feel better the first thing to do and become more aware of your body and begin to correct the bad habits as the location in which you are sitting in the office or cross your legs. The practice of yoga increases awareness of themselves and their bodies and helps us realize when we hire the incorrect positions during everyday life. There are many asanas (postures) with which we can take action to relieve the discomfort of this disease and, by constant practice, resolve it. The allungamneto of the spine is the first thing with positions as Utkatasana (chair position) or ardha setubandhasana (the half bridge position). In the acute pain phase instead they should be avoided forward bends and seated positions with the exception vajirasana (lightning position) that helps to straighten and stretch the spine. To maintain a healthy back is important to tone the abdominal muscles and toned mantenrela over time, navasana (boat’s position) in its varienti is the best exercise to train the muscles of the abdomen. A very useful tool for the care and relief of back pain is the Swedish wall (present in our yoga center), which allows you to stretch all the vertebrae column by modulating the level of intensity of the effort. For those suffering from chronic back or have pathological situations such as hernias, we suggest you first follow the lessons where the teacher will be able to find the practice more ‘suited to their needs.
